Dear Parents and Senior Highers,

We want to welcome you to the 2011-12 school year and share some information about Sr. High  Ministries (grades 9-12) here at Lighthouse.

Connections, our Sunday morning gathering, will kick off the school year on the main campus in Room 7 beginning Sunday, September 11. We will be greeting kids beginning at 9:30 AM and will be done around 11:00 AM. The time includes fellowship and teaching and is facilitated by Adam and Kelsey Baydo.

High School mid-week ministry revolves around several Home Groups which are hosted and facilitated by adults who love kids and are called by God to this ministry. We choose to minister to Sr. Highers in this way for a number of reasons. First, everyone – young and old – wants to be where someone knows their name. And, not only their name, but who they are as a person. Home groups provide a safe place where kids can be themselves and be fully accepted. In addition, kids are given the opportunity to observe healthy adult relationships and be connected in a real way to other kids. Smaller groups allow for intimacy, for stretching and growing, and for opportunities to practice life in a community of believers.

We have four home groups that meet weekly - two meet on Wednesday nights and two on Thursday nights. Home groups meet from 6:00 PM-8:30 PM and include dinner, hang-out time and Bible study. Two home groups will welcome incoming 9th graders and newcomers to Lighthouse: the Smeall/Howard group on Wednesdays and the Kelley/Howard group on Thursdays.

The home groups will kick off the week of September 12 with their regular schedule of 6:00-8:30 PM. Feel free to drop in or visit anytime. The hosts and facilitators welcome parental involvement in a number of ways including helping with meals. If you are interested in helping, just let the hosts or facilitators know or feel free to contact me.

We have attached the current information about the home groups. You can also find this on the youth ministry board in the main floor hallway near the upstairs kitchen at Lighthouse or on our website. Feel free to call me with any questions you might have.

Upcoming dates to save on your calendar – Senior High Fall Retreat – November 4-6 at Camp Sambica in Issaquah!!!!  Cost will be $98.00 per person. Watch for more information coming in September.

We look forward to sharing and growing with you.

God’s blessings,

Lori Harris and the Sr. High Ministries Staff

Summer Bucket List

August 29
School is just around the corner...
today is ideal for some back to school shopping!

We have lots of malls,
thrift stores, and more!

you might decide that you would like to sacrifice some of your
shopping money for tithe and offerings at church...
if so, there are so many places you can get cute clothes
CHEAP!
Be Thrifty, take your time, and pray about weather or not you NEED
something if it is pricey...
God tells us in 1 Timothy to not spend our money on expensive clothes.
We know that they are a chasing of the wind and we can do so much more with our money!

Have a blessed day!

Summer Bucket List

August 15
Today is a beautiful day... one worth soaking up!
You don't have to be on a mission trip to make it your mission to do something for others.

Today is going to be warm. Make some cookies, and lemonade and set up a stand giving them out free!
put up a sign letting them know its free, and that prayers or scriptures are available too!
Write scriptures on the napkins you hand out for example... be creative and learn how to be a witness to the people in our community. The world needs Jesus.

Make a difference in someone's day!
Bring some to the park, and set up there or on a corner near you.

It may seem simple, but just giving something away is not the only goal, make sure to tell them that they are loved and if they ask why, say direct them towards God.
an Example, "I wanted to bless someone today"
Hopefully you can talk to someone about the Lord and share the gospel.

Pray that God will give you opportunities to speak to others about him, and for guidance from the Holy Spirit to know when to listen, to speak, and what words to say.
